Humphreys County Outdoor Report For March 3rd

Published Mar 4, 4:07pm

Lake levels have fallen to winter pool, with levels on Friday at New Johnsonville holding in the mid 354ft range. TVA has predicted the levels to remain stable this week, but the weather man is saying we may see a good amount of rain this week, which could change things. The Duck river continues to fall, with levels on last Friday just under 3ft. Kentucky lake surface water temps have rebounded, with averages in the mid 50’s in most locations, but warm weather is on tap, as well as warm rains, and we could see an increase in surface temperatures this week.

The fishing report continues to be getting better, with some really good reports on the crappie! Most fishermen are finding fish in the moderate depths of 12-15ft, but if we see a reduction in flow rates back toward normal, I do expect a good number of fish to return to the river drops and flats where the strong current over the last few weeks has pushed many into the more protected areas inside of bays. Most fishermen have been finding them near the bottom, using a slow presentation. And always use your electronics to locate areas with fish before tossing any baits their way. Bass fishermen have been coming up with some good limits as well, as the pre-spawn patterns are working, and with the strong current, many bass have also moved into protected coves and bays.
