Lake levels did rise some with the rain we had last week, and with the predicted rain each day this week, I’m sure the lake will continue to rise some. Current levels as of Saturday were holding at 360 ft with around 50,000 cfs current. More water is coming into the lake than is going out, so don’t expect to see much flow the next few days. Water temps are now approaching the 80 degree mark and rising.
Bass action continues to change on a daily basis, with both a shallow bite and a ledge bite producing some fish, but with no consistency. Lots of shad minnows are hugging the bank in shallow bays, and I’m guessing the fish are up shallow feeding on them. The shad haven’t moved out on the ledges yet, but as water temps increase, I do expect them to move out with the bass close behind. Crappie are still scattered, and techniques that cover water are working best. Some really good sized slabs have been taken this past week, look for fish around the 15 ft range. Catfish are on bed, and fishing has been good for small fish, particularly in the shallows around rock cover. Blue gill are still being taken on bed, and should be off over the next few weeks, but will spawn multiple times throughout the summer.
Free fishing day is this upcoming Saturday, June 12th and many counties will be having events for the kids. Mason’s Boat Dock will have theirs this year after not having one last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Spring Squirrel season will be over next Sunday, June 13th .
