Humphreys Co. Outdoor Report for Dec. 12th

Published Dec 13, 9:52am

Lake levels remain somewhat stable, with a slight rise due to the rainfall this past week, levels have been between 355-356 ft.  Flow rates have picked back up, with TVA trying to maintain winter levels.  Water temps have remained in the mid to low 50’s this week, but warm weather is returning this week, and will bump surface temps up somewhat.

Crappie fishing has been steadily improving, with those fishermen who have been fighting the ever-present wind, coming in with some good fish.  Most fish are still in the 15-25 ft range on stake beds and stumps close to drops.  There are a few bass fishermen venturing out, but not catching much most likely due to the cooler water temps and abundance of shad.  As the water cools towards the lower 50’s and gets into the 40’s, shad tend to move into the backs of coves in shallow water, the sports fish will be close by when this happens, including catfish, often just before the end of this month, catfish can be taken in water less than 5 ft deep.

Deer season continues until the first weekend of January, and Humphreys Co. has just over 1,300 deer harvested so far.  Waterfowl season will continue until the end of January, and did have a great start, but with warmer weather moving in, don't expect much movement in the ducks, as what waterfowl we do have will remain on the refuge.
