Family History Poetry Workshop

-

Each one of us is the sum of our ancestors. Each of us has as story that was built on top of the stories of our parents and grand parents. Each of us has a story that is built on top of the stories of our parents, grandparents, greats and grands. In celebration of National Poetry Month and Ellis Island Family History Day, join us as we explore our lives and family histories through the poetic process.

In this workshop we’ll write a simple identity poem using a template that requires no previous knowledge or experience of poetry, and that can be used again and again to create an album of your life and your family’s history.

Workshop will require a minimum of 5 persons and has a maximum registration of `12 persons. Workshop will take place at the Johnsonville State Historic Park Visitor Center. Please bring a pen, paper and your family memories.

Deborah-Zenha Adams is an award-winning author of novels, short fiction, CNF, and poetry, and served as executive editor of Oconee Spirit Press for ten years. A seventh-generation Tennessean, she began exploring her family story in her teens and continues to dig up surprising and entertaining tidbits about her ancestors.
