OVERHOLT'S OLD TIME PIG BUTCHERING 

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18

LOCATED ON THE GROUNDS AT OVERHOLT'S FARM MARKET, HURRICANE MILLS, TN

Chief Butcher & Instructor: Joseph Miller / Quality Building Supply, Pleasantville, TN 

Chief Cook with Dutch Ovens: Jean Fellows, Lobelville, TN

Bring your family and learn how our grandparents used to do it! Don't forget your apron,  knife for cutting, cutting boards & scrapers. PLEASE PUT YOUR NAME ON EVERYTHING THAT YOU BRING. Not responsible for accidents or broken personal items! Please closely supervise your children if they are using knives! 

 

ALL FOOD & DRINK SERVED OUTSIDE OF THE MARKET IS FREE!!! 

THIS EVENT IS RAIN OR SHINE!  IT WILL BE COLD! DRESS ACCORDINGLY! BRING YOUR LAWN CHAIR! TENTS AND TABLES WILL BE SET UP. WARM UP AT THE FIRE OR INSIDE THE MARKET. 

ITINERARY: (Come whenever you like, or at the beginning to see the entire process!!)

5 a.m. Start fires to heat water. Coffee & Visiting

7 a.m. Processing of first pig will begin. (Not for the squeamish and will take place away from the market on the farm) 

8 a.m. Cut up meat, season & mix, Stuff sausage, Start Cracklings

9 am. FRESH sausage, eggs & pancakes will start frying to be served for FREE!

9:30 a.m. Processing of second pig will begin.

10:30 a.m. Cut up meat, season & mix, stuff sausage. 

11 a.m. Sausage, beans & corn bread served for FREE!

11:30 a.m. Render lard & start scrapple

12:30 p.m. Popcorn in a dutch oven! FREE!!
