Lately it’s either been cool and windy or warm and windy. It seems March has made a return in early May. In spite of all the bad weather, fishermen are coming up with some good catches of shell crackers and catfish. Water levels in our area have been on the rise with all the precipitation this past week, and the Tn River has seen an increase in flow as well as levels. Levels on Sunday were at 360.5 ft and flow rates of around 65,000 cfs. TVA is predicting a fall this week in an attempt to get the levels back to 360 ft. Water temps have seemed to stagnate this week, with average surface temps around the low 70’s. Some good catches of bass have also been taken around the area, with most fishermen tossing jigs and spinner baits around the shoreline cover. Shell-cracker fishermen have been finding good numbers of fish around the weed lines inside the bays while fishing worms and wax-worms tossed close the grass. Catfish have been shallow, especially around rocks while fishing night-crawlers fished on floats.
Turkey season will conclude next Sunday. So far in Humphreys Co, we have harvested 457 birds. The largest harvest in the state is held by Maury Co. with 1,154 birds so far this year. Spring squirrel season began this past Saturday, and will continue into June, limits are 10/day. Just don’t forget to apply ample tick spray, as the demons are abundant this year.
