It’s that time of year for all our outdoor enthusiasts to purchase their new 2021-2022 hunting and fishing licenses. Each year, beginning on March 1st the new hunting and fishing licenses are needed before Tennesseans hunt or fish. TWRA has the beginning dates March 1 until the end of February, which coincides with the beginning of fishing season in the spring, and ends at the end of the hunting seasons. Licenses are available for purchase at local agents, here in Humphreys Co. Hunt’s Outdoors, Walmart, and Bud’s Market , as well as both Casey’s General Stores . Licenses can also be purchased online at or by using TWRA’s mobile app (available at the play store or apple store for free).

Lake conditions are changing rapidly, with predicted rainfall over a few inches entering the Tennessee river valleys this week, TVA is predicting a sharp rise in lake levels, as well as flow rates. Current water levels as of Friday, have been around 356.5 ft and predicted to rise into the mid 358 ft levels by mid week. Water temps have been slowly increasing, with surface temps last week around 32-33 degrees, but with the warm winds and rain , we’ve seen an increase into the mid to upper 30’s this week.

Not much of a fishing report this week, as many fishermen couldn’t get out due to the snow and ice, and then the winds came to spoil any other ideas of heading to the lake. With the upcoming warming trend, expect the fishing to pick up rapidly, as many of our fish have to feed up and prepare for the upcoming spawn, and some of the heaviest fish of the year can be found early spring.

Trout stocking for Humphreys Co. started this past week, with stockings taking place over the next few months in spring. Area stocking sites include; Loretta Lynn’s dude ranch (at the bridge near the dam), also Tumbling Creek Rd, between Hwy 13 and Hwy 231. Houstin Co. also gets stocked off Coolyford Rd at Magnolia and Rainbow bridges. Remember that if you fish for or keep trout, you may need in addition to your regular fishing license, a trout license.
